SCHOOL
MISSION
Heights Elementary develops lifelong learners
who think compassionately and globally.
HISTORY
Heights Elementary became a
Lee County school in 1964, serving 180 students living in the
Harlem Heights area. In 1969, the school was closed and the building was
used as a
storage
facility. The school was reopened in 1971as a small school serving the
neighborhood
and
surrounding farm areas. In 1975, thirty-one additional classrooms,
cafeteria,
and media
center were added to the existing structure. This addition was
in response
to the increase in
population in southern Lee County. In 2008, while the school building was
being torn down, a state-of-the-art facility that, today, serves
approximately 850 students
from the South Zone was completed.
BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL
In 1992, Heights Elementary
was recognized by the U. S. Department of Education
as a
National Blue Ribbon School of Recognition. This tradition of excellence
continues as the administration, staff, students, and parents strive to meet the
Heights motto: "Reaching for New Heights; Climbing the Ladder of Success".
