The Heights IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a curriculum framework designed for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It is defined by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, explored using knowledge and skills derived from six subject areas, with a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning.

Heights Elementary started the process of becoming the South Zone Premier IB Elementary School in May of 2005. In 2007-2008, Heights Elementary was a candidate school for the Primary Years IB Program. In the 2008-2009 school year the school was visited by an IB Authorization team to observe and report our progress to the Director General. In September of 2009, Heights Elementary became an authorized IB PYP World School. During the 2015-2016 school year we will continue professional development in levels 1, 2 and 3 for our teachers, as well as developing our school planners around the six IB themes. We were visited by the IB Organization for re-authorization during the 2012-2013 school year. Our next re-authorization visit will take place during the 2017-2018 school year.
